CNN reporter Julia Horowitz said that Facebook announced last August 15 that they will build their $750 million data center in New Albany, just outside of Columbus Ohio.
It is said that this data center will employ 100 permanent workers in 2019 when it goes live.
“Ohio, as we know, has a heavy reliance on manufacturing, and we’re for that. But we also believe that manufacturing in and of itself doesn’t get the job done,” said Ohio Governor John Kasich in his press speech.
According to the Ohio Development Services Agency, an estimated $37.1 million state tax incentive will be given to Facebook as a support of the project.
According to Kasich, the state of Ohio is also communicating with Foxconn (Taiwanese electronics manufacturer) to build an additional plant. It is said that Foxconn will invest $10 billion in its Wisconsin plant which will create somewhere between 3,000 and 13,000 jobs.
The U.S. existing Facebook data centers in Oregon, North Carolina and Iowa, and centers in Fort Worth, Texas and Los Lunas, New Mexico are still under construction. Facebook announced that in April, they will be building another site in Papillon, Nebraska.
Though the company’s sales growth may be slowing down, notable physical infrastructure are required for its massive user base. FB, Tech30 hit 2 billion monthly users in June.
Erin Egan, Facebook’s vice president of U.S. public policy said: “We’re thrilled to have found a home in Ohio and to embark on this exciting partnership; the facility will be powered by renewable energy.”
